I should probably make an admission here. I’ve long been a fan of Rob/thescatteredimage’s work; his multiple exposures have particularly impressed me (a brilliant one can be seen preceding the above image), but it was a collective work similar to the work above that first attracted me to his stream.

I suppose you could say that some of Rob’s work is reminiscent of David Hockney but I think that you’d have to agree that Rob has taken it to the next level, particularly in this shot. From what I understand, Hockney’s collages/final works were intentionally created to highlight different perspectives within the same frame. In comparison, it would appear that Rob has attempted to provide the viewer with a more complete view of the subject in question.

Rob’s image above shows high attention to planning the final output before even taking the first shot. A single roll was used to capture a single scene. Despite some of the top frames lacking much focal interest, it’s hard not to admire the thought and creativity that went into this.

I’ve got to admit, I’m really keen to try out this concept for myself. Anyone else feel the same?

Geez Tam … I feel really humbled. Cheers mate.

Couldn’t have explained it better myself. Sometimes these works are more organic and I just shoot heaps and see where it goes, but others, like this one, have a degree of planning involved. This one was lucky – it was only my second go.

Getting it all on one roll was important to me. There were only three superfluous frames which were shot intentionally to give more separation between the three sections for cutting and scanning. I also had one shot at scanning the negatives which were arranged straight onto the scanner glass. I feel that the “one take” concept helps with the tension and keeps the image fresh.

    Thanks again mate. Really appreciated.
