GoHolga.com has a great article for those new to the Holga world.
Worth a visit if you’ve recently purcahsed a Holga!
Don’t have a Holga? Amazon.com currently has them starting at $18.99!*
One more thing to keep in mind is that if you have the 6×6 mask inserted, make sure the arrow is set to 12. If you have the 6×4.5 mask in, set the arrow pointing at the 16. If you set the arrow on 16 with the 6×6 mask in you end up with a wonderful overlapping panorama that spans the length of the film….
Feel you’ve experienced all the Holga can offer you in its 120 glory? Dave Wolanski recently emailed us about an article he wrote on using 35mm film in a Holga. Definitely worth a look.
What would you recommend to first time Holga users? Or even your favourite modification? Feel free to link to your blog!

Hey there – nice blog! I am a big film addict myself (and mainly use a Holga). For first time users, in addition to the tips above, I’d recommend being aware of the light and choose your film speed accordingly. It’s definitely best to shoot outside in daylight until you have a feel for the Holga, and then you can start to experiment.

Good point! I find that using 100ISO film outside on sunny days works best for me. It can be a little harder to judge speeds for other types of weather until you’ve had experience with the Holga.

Same thing with the Diana+. The instructions tell you to use ISO400 film and just follow the indicators on the camera for aperture. I blew out a few rolls of film before figuring out that ISO100 or ISO160 film works best.
